Both HS2 phases should go through Parliament together
Labour has reinforced its strong support for HS2, calling for phase 1 and 2 (London-Birmingham and Birmingham-Manchester/Leeds) to go through parliament together.
Shadow Transport Secretary Maria Eagle told the party conference, taking place this week in Manchester, that HS2 would deliver much-needed capacity.
“And HS2. Delivering new capacity. Cutting journey times across Britain, benefiting cities like Manchester.
I say to the new Transport Secretary: it’s time to get behind this project in a way your predecessors failed to do.
Let’s work together on a cross-party basis to legislate for the whole route in this Parliament.”
HS2 has cross-party support. Transport Minister Norman Baker MP told last week’s Liberal Democrat conference that HS2 would be great news for the environment.
